Any administrator should excel at:

  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates, as well as communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and promoting employees in an organization, and getting them to work together to accomplish tasks by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

Strategist

Archetype 8 Strategist

Most strategists should excel at:

  • Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

  • Advising students on issues such as course selection, progress toward graduation, and career decisions.
  • Directing, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of personnel, including assistance staff engaged in administering academic institutions, departments, or alumni organizations.
  • Formulating strategic plans for the institution.
  • Promoting the university by participating in community, state, and national events or meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry and secondary education institutions.
  • Writing grants for procuring external funding, and supervising grant funded projects.
  • Overseeing facilities management for the university, including construction, repairing, and maintenance projects.

  • Preparing reports on academic or institutional data.
