Great artisans are usually capable of:
- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
- Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
- Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Controller

Controllers are expected to be good at:
- Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
- Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
- Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
- Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.
Other work activities related to Sailors and marine oilers
- Maintaining government issued certifications, as required.
- Lowering and manning lifeboats when emergencies occur.
- Standing by wheels when ships are on automatic pilot and verifying accuracy of courses, using magnetic compasses.
- Steering ships under the direction of commanders or navigating officers or directing helmsmen into steering, following designated courses.
- Handling lines to moor vessels to wharfs, for tying up vessels to other vessels, or for rigging towing lines.
- Standing watch in ships’ bows or bridge wings looking for obstructions in a ship’s path or for locating navigational aids, such as buoys or lighthouses.
- Standing gangway watches for preventing unauthorized persons from boarding ships while in port.
- Overhauling lifeboats or lifeboat gear and lowering or raising lifeboats with winches or falls.
- Operating, maintaining, or repairing ship equipment, such as winches, cranes, derricks, or weapons system.
- Lubricating machinery, equipment, or engine parts, such as gears, shafts, or bearings.
