Archetype 1 Administrator

Any administrator should excel at:

  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates, as well as communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and promoting employees in an organization, and getting them to work together to accomplish tasks by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

Artisan

Archetype 9 Artisan

Great artisans are usually capable of:

  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Other work activities related to Library technicians

  • Reserving, circulate, renewing, and discharge books and other materials.
  • Entering and updating patrons’ records on computers.
  • Providing assistance to teachers and students by locating materials and helping for completing special projects.
  • Training other staff, volunteers, or student assistants and scheduling and supervising their working.
  • Conducting reference searches, using printed materials and in house and online databases.
  • Processing interlibrary loans for patrons.
  • Processing printed and non printed library materials, preparing them to be included in the library collections.
  • Retrieving information from central databases for storage in a library’s computer.
  • Organizing and maintaining periodicals and reference materials.
  • Compiling and maintaining records relating to circulation, materials, and equipment.
  • Issuing identification cards to borrowers.
  • Verifying bibliographical data for materials, including author, title, publisher, publication date, and edition.
