Innovators will usually have four main goals:

  • Developing or creating new applications, relationships, systems, or products.
  • Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
  • Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
  • Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.

Technician

Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Other work activities related to Web developers

  • Designing, building, or maintaining Web sites, using authoring or scripting languages, content creation tools, management tools, and digital media.
  • Performing or directing Web site updates.
  • Writing, design, or editing Web page content, or directing others producing content.
  • Conferring with management or development teams to prioritize needs, resolving conflicts, developing content criteria, or choosing solutions.
  • Backing up files from Web sites to local directories for instant recovery in case of problems.
  • Identifying problems uncovered by testing or customer feedback, and correcting problems or referring problems to appropriate personnel for correction.
  • Evaluating the coding for ensuring that it is valid, is properly structured, meets industry standards, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems.
  • Maintaining understanding of current Web technologies or programming practices through continuing education, reading, or participation in professional conferences, workshops, or groups.
