Administrator

Any administrator should excel at:
- Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates, as well as communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
- Maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
- Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and promoting employees in an organization, and getting them to work together to accomplish tasks by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.
Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:
- Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
- Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
- Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.
Other work activities related to Switchboard operators, including answering service
- Performing various data entry or word processing tasks, such as updating phone directories, typing or proofreading documents, or creating schedules.
- Processing incoming or outgoing mail, packages, or deliveries.
- Performing administrative tasks, such as accepting orders, scheduling appointments or meeting rooms, or sending and receiving faxes.
- Monitoring emergency and code alarms, making emergency announcements, or routing emergency calls to the appropriate location.
- Greeting visitors, logging them in and out of the facility, assigning them security badges, and contacting employee escorts.
- Performing various cash handling tasks, such as collecting payments, making bank deposits, or managing petty cash.
- Placing orders, such as for equipment, supplies, or catering for meetings.
- Operating communication systems, such as telephone, switchboard, intercom, two way radio, or public address.
- Answering incoming calls, greeting callers, providing information, transferring calls or taking messages as necessary.
