Great artisans are usually capable of:

- Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
- Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Inspector

Inspectors should be great at:
- Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

- Walking flow lines for locating leaks, using electronic detectors and by making visual inspections, and repairing the leaks.
- Cleaning up spilled oil by bailing it into barrels.

- Bolting together pumps and engine parts.
- Moving pipes to and from trucks, using truck winches and motorized lifts, or by hand.
- Dismantling and repairing oil field machinery, boilers, and steam engine parts, using hand tools and power tools.
- Digging drainage ditches around wells and storage tanks.
- Keeping pipe deck and main deck areas cleaning and tidying.
- Guiding cranes for moving loads about decks.
- Supplying equipment to rig floors as requested and providing assistance to roughnecks.
- Digging holes, setting forms, and mixing and pouring concrete into forms for making foundations for wood or steel derricks.
- Cutting down and removing trees and brush for clearing drill sites, for reducing fire hazards, and for making way for roads to sites.
- Bolting or nailing together wood or steel framework to erecting derricks.
