  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Supervisor

Any supervisor should excel at:

  • Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment.
  • Detecting or assessing problems whether real or potential.
  • Monitoring and controlling resources and overseeing the spending of money.

Other work activities related to Pump operators, except wellhead pumpers

  • Monitoring gauges and flowmeters and inspecting equipment for ensuring that tank levels, temperatures, chemical amounts, and pressures are at specified levels, reporting abnormalities as necessary.
  • Recording operating data such as products and quantities pumped, stocks used, gauging results, and operating times.
  • Communicating with other workers, using signals, radios, or telephones, for starting and stopping flows of materials or substances.
  • Tending vessels for storing substances such as gases, liquids, slurries, or powdered materials, checking levels of substances by using calibrated rods or by reading mercury gauges and tank charts.
  • Turning valves and starting pumps for starting or regulating flows of substances such as gases, liquids, slurries, or powdered materials.
  • Planning movement of products through lines for processing, storage, and shipping units, using knowledge of interconnections and capacities of pipelines, valve manifolds, pumps, and tankage.
  • Reading operating schedules or instructions or receiving verbal orders for determining amounts to be pumped.
