Controller

Archetype 4 Controller

Controllers are expected to be good at:

  • Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
  • Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
  • Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Other work activities related to Nuclear power reactor operators

  • Authorizing actions for correcting identified operational inefficiencies or hazards so that the operating efficiency is maximized and the potential environmental issues are minimized.
  • Directing measurement of the intensity or types of radiation in working areas, equipment, or materials.
  • Directing the collection and testing of air, water, gas, or solid samples for determining radioactivity levels or for ensuring the appropriate radioactive containment.
  • Identifying or directing the implementation of appropriate decontamination procedures, based on equipment and the size, nature, and types of contamination.
  • Operating nuclear power reactors in accordance with policies and procedures for protecting workers from radiation and for ensuring environmental safety.
  • Supervising technicians’ working activities for ensuring that equipment is operated in accordance with policies and procedures for protecting workers from radiation and ensuring environmental safety.
  • Developing or implementing actions such as lockouts, tagouts, or clearances to allow equipment to be safely repaired.
