Great artisans are usually capable of:
- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
- Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
- Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Innovator

Innovators will usually have four main goals:
- Developing or creating new applications, relationships, systems, or products.
- Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
- Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
- Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.
Other work activities related to Museum technicians and conservators
- Directing and supervising curatorial, technical, and student staff in the handling, mounting, caring, and storage of art objects.
- Leading tours and teaching educational courses to students and the general public.
- Entering information about museum collections into computer databases.
- Installing, arranging, assembling, and preparing artifacts for exhibition, ensuring the artifacts’ safety, reporting their status and conditions, and identifying and correcting any problems with the setting up.
- Coordinating exhibit installations, assisting with design, constructing displays, dioramas, display cases, and models, and ensuring the availability of necessary materials.
- Determining whether objects need repairing and choosing the safest and most effective method of repairing.
- Cleaning objects, such as paper, textiles, wood, metal, glass, rock, pottery, and furniture, using cleansers, solvents, soap solutions, and polishes.
- Preparing artifacts for storage and shipping.
- Supervising and working with volunteers.
