Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Strategist

Most strategists should excel at:

  • Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

Other work activities related to Industrial engineering technicians

  • Evaluating industrial operations for compliance with permits or regulations related to the generation, storage, treatment, transportation, or disposal of hazardous materials or waste.
  • Initiating or participating in emergency response procedures for containing, securing, or cleaning spills of hazardous materials.
  • Monitoring environmental management systems for compliance with environmental policies, programs, or regulations.
  • Operating industrial hygiene equipment in manufacturing environments for reducing exposure to environmental contaminants.
  • Designing new equipment or materials or recommending revision to methods of operation, material handling, equipment layout, or other changes for increasing production or improving standards.
  • Testing selected products at specified stages in the production procedures for their performance characteristics or adherence to specifications.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas for management or engineering staff.
