Innovators will usually have four main goals:

  • Developing or creating new applications, relationships, systems, or products.
  • Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
  • Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
  • Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.

Technician

Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Other work activities related to Aerospace engineering and operations technicians

  • Inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and operating testing setups and equipment for detecting malfunctions.
  • Recording and interpreting testing data on parts, assemblies, and mechanisms.
  • Conferring with engineering personnel regarding details and implications of testing procedures and results.
  • Adjusting, repairing or replacing faulty components of testing setups and equipment.
  • Identifying required data, data acquisition plans and testing parameters, setting up equipment to conform to these specifications.
  • Constructing and maintaining testing facilities for aircraft parts and systems, according to specifications.
  • Operating and calibrating computer systems and devices for complying with testing requirements and to performing data acquisition and analysis.
  • Testing aircraft systems under simulated operational conditions, performing systems readiness tests and pre and post operational checkouts, to establishing design or fabrication parameters.
  • Fabricating and installing parts and systems to be tested in testing equipment, using hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments.
