- Compiling and maintaining records on personnel, accidents, equipment, and supplies.
- Performing maintenance and minor repairs on firefighting equipment, including vehicles, and writing and submitting proposals to modifying, replacing, and repairing equipment.
- Assigning firefighters to jobs at strategic locations for facilitating rescuing of persons and maximizing application of extinguishing agents.
- Providing emergency medical services as required, and performing light to heavy rescuing functions at emergencies.
- Assessing nature and extent of fires, conditions of buildings, dangers to adjacent buildings, and the status of the water supplies for determining crew or company requirements.
- Instructing and drilling fire department personnel in assigned duties, including firefighting, medical caring, hazardous materials response, fire prevention, and related subjects.

- Directing the training of firefighters, assigning of instructors to training classes, and providing of supervisors with reports on training progress and status.
