Innovators will usually have four main goals:

- Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
- Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
- Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.
Analyzer

Analyzers will often perform the following tasks:
- Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
- Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
- Assessing the value, importance, or quality of things or people.
- Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
Other work activities related to Technical writers
- Developing or maintaining online help documentation.
- Organizing material and completing the writing assignment according to the established standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, styling, and terminology.
- Maintaining records and files of working and revisions.
- Editing, standardizing, or making changes to material prepared by other writers or establishment personnel.
- Conferring with customer representatives, vendors, plants executives, or publisher to establishing technical specifications and for determining subject material to be developed for publication.
- Reviewing published materials and recommending revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
- Selecting photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
- Studying drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrating and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
