Innovators will usually have four main goals:

  • Developing or creating new applications, relationships, systems, or products.
  • Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
  • Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
  • Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.

Technician

Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Other work activities related to Sound engineering technicians

  • Converting video and audio recordings into digital formats for editing or archiving.
  • Setting up, testing, and adjusting recording equipment for recording sessions and live performances.
  • Conferring with producers, performers, and others for determining and achieve the desired sound for a production, such as a musical recording or a film.
  • Regulating volume levels and sound quality during recording sessions, using controlling consoles.
  • Preparing for recording sessions by performing such activities as selecting and setting up microphones.
  • Reporting equipment problems and ensuring that required repairs are made.
  • Mixing and editing voices, music, and taped sound effects for live performances and for prerecorded events, using sound mixing boards.
  • Synchronize and equalize prerecorded dialogue, music, and sound effects with visual action of motion pictures or television productions, using controlling consoles.
  • Recording speech, music, and other sounds on recording media, using recording equipment.
