Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Strategist

  • Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

  • Supervising technologists, technicians, or other engineers.
  • Integrating robotics with peripherals, such as welders, controllers, or other equipment.
  • Providing technical assistance for robotic systems.
  • Reviewing or approving designs, calculations, or cost estimates.
  • Making system device lists or event timing charts.
  • Documenting robotic application development, maintenance, or changes.
  • Writing algorithms or programming codes for ad hoc robotic applications.
  • Creating backups of robot programs or parameters.
  • Processing or interpreting signals or sensor data.
  • Planning mobile robot paths and teaching path plans to robots.
  • Investigating mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems.
