Most strategists should excel at:
- Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
- Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

- Setting up and operating machine tools, such as milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and grinders, to machine castings or patterns.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints or drawings of parts to be casted or patterns to be made, computing dimensions, and planning operational sequences.
- Verifying conformance of patterns or template dimensions to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers.
- Programming computerized numerical controlling machine tools.
- Designing and creating templates, patterns, or coreboxes according to working orders, sample parts, or mockups.
