Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Administrator

Archetype 1 Administrator

Any administrator should excel at:

  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates, as well as communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and promoting employees in an organization, and getting them to work together to accomplish tasks by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

Other work activities related to Park naturalists

  • Planning and organizing public events at the parks.
  • Developing environmental educational programs and curricula for schools.
  • Providing visitor services, such as explaining regulations, answering visitor requests, needs and complaints, and providing information about the parks and its surrounding areas.
  • Conducting field trips to point out scientific, historic, and natural features of parks, forests, historic sites, or other attractions.
  • Preparing and presenting illustrated lectures and interpretive talks about the parks features.
  • Assisting with operations of general facilities, such as visitor centers.
  • Researching stories regarding the area’s natural history or environment.
  • Interviewing specialists in desired fields for obtaining and developing data for the parks’ information programs.
  • Compiling and maintaining official parks photographic and information files.
  • Taking photographs and motion pictures for using in lectures and publications and for developing displays.
