Archetype 4 Controller

Controllers are expected to be good at:

  • Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
  • Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
  • Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Artisan

Archetype 9 Artisan

Great artisans are usually capable of:

  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Other work activities related to Operating engineers and other construction equipment operators

  • Learning and following safety regulations.
  • Taking actions for avoiding potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
  • Adjusting handwheels and depressing pedals for controlling attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, or swing booms.
  • Starting engines, moving throttles, switches, or levers, or depressing pedals for operating machines, such as bulldozers, trench excavators, road graders, or backhoes.
  • Locating underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning working.
  • Monitoring operations for ensuring that health and safety standards are met.
  • Aligning machines, cutterheads, or depth gauge makers with reference stakes and guidelines or ground or positioning equipment, following hand signals of other workers.
  • Loading and moving dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials, using trucks, crawler tractors, power cranes, shovels, graders, or related equipment.
