Great artisans are usually capable of:
- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
- Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
- Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Inspector

Inspectors should be great at:
- Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Other work activities related to Helpers (pipelayers, plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters)
- Performing rough ins, repairing and replacing fixtures and water heaters, and locating, repairing, or removing leaking or broken pipes.
- Cutting or drilling holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipes.
- Measuring, cutting, threading and assembling new pipe, placing the assembled pipe in hangers or other supports.
- Mounting adequate brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings, for holding pipes, and setting sleeves or inserts for supporting them.
- Requisitioning tools and equipment, selecting types and sizes of pipes, and collecting and transporting materials and equipment to working site.
- Placing or assisting in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems, using hand tools.
- Assisting pipe fitters in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas, and water systems.
- Excavate and grading ditches, and laying and joining pipe for water and sewer service.
- Cutting pipe and lifting it up for fitters.
- Disassembling and removing damaged or worn pipe.
