Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Strategist

  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

  • Participating in training or continuing education activities to stay abreast of engineering or industry advances.
  • Assisting engineers and scientists in conducting applied researching in electrical engineering.
  • Diagnosing, testing, or analyzing the performance of electrical components, assemblies, or systems.
  • Setting up and operating standard or specialized testing equipment.
  • Reviewing installation or quality assurance documentation.
  • Reviewing, developing, and preparing maintenance standards.
  • Compiling and maintaining records documenting engineering schematics, installed equipment, installation or operational problems, resources used, repairs, or corrective action performed.
  • Supervising the construction or testing of electrical prototypes, according to general instructions and established standards.
  • Reviewing electrical engineering plans for ensuring adherence to design specifications and compliance with applicable electrical codes and standards.
