• Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment.
• Detecting or assessing problems whether real or potential.
• Monitoring and controlling resources and overseeing the spending of money.

• Verifying tank car, barge, or truck loading numbers for ensuring car placement accuracy based on written or verbal instructions.
• Observing the positions of passing cars, loading spouts, and swinging spouts into the adequate positions at the appropriate times.
• Operating ship loading and unloading equipment, conveyors, hoists, and other specialized material handling equipment such as railroad tank car unloading equipment.
• Monitoring product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinating activities with other workers for ensuring constant product flow.
• Recording operating data such as products and quantities pumped, gauge readings, and operating times, manually or using computers.
• Checking conditions and weights of vessels for ensuring cleanliness and compliance with loading procedures.
• Operating industrial trucks, tractors, loaders and other equipment for transporting materials to and from transportation vehicles and loading docks, and for storing and retrieving materials in warehouses.
