Great artisans are usually capable of:
- Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
- Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
- Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
Controller

Controllers are expected to be good at:
- Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
- Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
- Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
- Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.
Other work activities related to Furnace, kiln, oven, drier, and kettle operators and tenders
- Weighing or measuring specified amounts of ingredients or materials for processing, using devices such as scales and calipers.
- Pressing and adjusting controls for activating, setting, and regulating equipment according to specifications.
- Monitoring equipment operation, gauges, and panel lights for detecting deviations from standards.
- Reading and interpreting working orders and instructions for determining working assignments, processes specifications, and production schedules.
- Recording gauge readings, testing results, and shift production in logbooks.
- Conferring with supervisors or other equipment operators for reporting equipment malfunctions or for resolving production problems.
- Examining or testing samples of processed substances, or collecting samples for laboratory testing, for ensuring conformance to specifications.
- Cleaning, lubricating, and adjusting equipment, using scrapers, solvents, air hoses, oil, and hand tools.
- Transporting materials and products to and from working areas, manually or using carts, handtrucks, or hoists.
