Controllers are expected to be good at:

  • Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
  • Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
  • Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Artisan

Archetype 9 Artisan

Great artisans are usually capable of:

  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Other work activities related to Printing press operators

  • Adjusting digital files for altering the elements to be printed, such as fonts, graphics, or separations of colors.
  • Adjusting ink fountain flow rates.
  • Changing press plates, blankets, or cylinders, as required.
  • Cleaning ink fountains, plates, or printing unit cylinders when press runs are completed.
  • Cleaning or oiling presses or making minor repairs, using hand tools.
  • Collecting and inspecting random samples of printing runs for identifying any necessary adjustments.
  • Downloading or scanning files to be printed, using printing production software.
  • Examining job orders for determining quantities to be printed, stocks specifications, colors, or special printing instructions.
  • Feeding paper through press cylinders and adjusting loading and tension controls.
  • Inputting production job settings into workstation terminals that controlling automated printing systems.
  • Loading presses with paper and making necessary adjustments, according to paper size.
  • Monitoring automated press operation systems and responding to fault, error, or alert messages.
  • Obtaining or mixing inks and filling ink fountains.
