Controllers are expected to be good at:

  • Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
  • Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
  • Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Strategist

Most strategists should excel at:

  • Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

Other work activities related to Patternmakers, metal and plastic

  • Setting up and operating machine tools, such as milling machines, lathes, drill presses, and grinders, to machine castings or patterns.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints or drawings of parts to be casted or patterns to be made, computing dimensions, and planning operational sequences.
  • Verifying conformance of patterns or template dimensions to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, and micrometers.
  • Programming computerized numerical controlling machine tools.
  • Designing and creating templates, patterns, or coreboxes according to working orders, sample parts, or mockups.
  • Assembling pattern sections, using hand tools, bolts, screws, rivets, glues, or welding equipment.
  • Repairing and reworking templates and patterns.
  • Laying out and drawing or scribing patterns onto material, using compasses, protractors, rulers, scribes, or other instruments.
  • Cleaning and finishing patterns or templates, using emery cloths, files, scrapers, and power grinders.
