Controllers are expected to be good at:

• Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
• Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
• Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
• Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Great artisans are usually capable of:

• Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
• Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
• Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

• Drawing smelted metal samples from furnaces or kettles for analysis, and calculating types and amounts of materials needed for ensuring that materials meet specifications.
• Draining, transferring, or removing molten metal from furnaces, and placing it into molds, using hoists, pumps, or ladles.
• Recording production data, and maintaining production logs.
• Operating controls for moving or discharge metal workpieces from furnaces.
• Weighing materials to be charged into furnaces, using scales.
• Regulating supplies of fuel and air, or controlling flow of electric current and water coolant for heating furnaces and adjusting temperatures.
• Inspecting furnaces and equipment for locating defects and wear.
• Observing air and temperature gauges or metal color and fluidity, and turning fuel valves or adjusting controls for maintaining required temperatures.
• Observing operations inside furnaces, using television screens, for ensuring that problems do not occur.
• Removing impurities from the surface of molten metal, using strainers.
