Archetype 4 Controller

Controllers are expected to be good at:

  • Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
  • Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
  • Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Artisan

Archetype 9 Artisan

Great artisans are usually capable of:

  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Other work activities related to Milling and planing machine setters, operators, and tenders, metal and plastic

  • Removing workpieces from machines, and checking for ensuring that they conform to specifications, using measuring instruments such as microscopes, gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Observing milling or planning machine operation and adjusting controls for ensuring conformance with specified tolerances.
  • Positioning and securing workpieces on machines, using holding devices, measuring instruments, hand tools, and hoists.
  • Studying blueprints, layouts, sketches, or working orders for assessing workpiece specifications and for determining tooling instructions, tools and materials needed, and sequences of operations.
  • Moving controls to setting cutting specifications, for positioning cutting tools and workpieces in relation to each other, and for starting machines.
  • Computing dimensions, tolerances, and angles of workpieces or machines, according to specifications and knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Verifying alignment of workpieces on machines, using measuring instruments, such as rules, gauges, or calipers.
