Controllers are expected to be good at:

  • Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate manufacturing systems.
  • Working with hand operated industrial machines and power tools.
  • Adjusting knobs, levers, and physical or touch sensitive buttons in industrial devices.
  • Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts, passenger vehicles, aircraft, or watercraft.

Artisan

Archetype 9 Artisan

Great artisans are usually capable of:

  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Other work activities related to Lathe and turning machine tool setters, operators, and tenders, metal and plastic

  • Inspecting sample workpieces for verifying conformance with specifications, using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Studying blueprints, layouts or charts, and job orders for information on specifications and tooling instructions, and for determining material requirements and operational sequences.
  • Adjusting machine controls and changing tool settings for keeping dimensions within specified tolerances.
  • Moving controls for setting the cutting speeds and depths and loading rates, and for positioning tools in relation to workpieces.
  • Starting lathe or turning machines and observing operations for ensuring that specifications are met.
  • Selecting cutting tools and tooling instructions, according to written specifications or knowledge of metal properties and shop mathematics.
  • Cranking machines through cycles, stopping for adjusting tool positions and machine controls for ensuring specified timing, clearances, and tolerances.
  • Lifting metal stocks or workpieces manually or using hoists, and positioning and securing them in machines, using fasteners and hand tools.
