• Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
• Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
• Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
• Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

• Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
• Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
• Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

• Disassembling appliances so that problems can be diagnosed and repairs can be made.
• Billing customers for repairing working, and collecting payment.
• Tracing electrical circuits, following diagrams, and conducting tests with circuit testers and other equipment for locating shorts and grounds.
• Servicing and repairing domestic electrical or gas appliances, such as clothes washers, refrigerators, stoves, and dryers.
• Replacing worn and defective parts such as switches, bearings, transmissions, belts, gears, circuit boards, or defective wiring.
• Talk to customers or referring to working orders to establishing the nature of appliance malfunctions.
• Reassembling units after repairs are made, making adjustments and cleaning and lubricating parts as needed.
• Recording maintenance and repairing working performed on appliances.
• Providing repairing cost estimates, and recommending whether appliance repairing or replacement is a better choice.
• Maintaining stocks of parts used in on site installation, maintenance, and repairing of appliances.
