Great artisans are usually capable of:

  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
  • Performing precise and skillful manipulation of small objects.
  • Being active and proactive in regards to physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

Technician

Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Other work activities related to Motorboat mechanics and service technicians

  • Disassembling and inspecting motors for locating defective parts, using mechanic’s hand tools and gauges.
  • Mounting motors to boats and operating boats at various speeds on waterways to conducting operational tests.
  • Starting motors and monitoring performance for signs of malfunctioning, such as smoke, excessive vibration, or misfiring.
  • Documenting inspection and testing results and working performed or to be performed.
  • Replacing parts, such as gears, magneto points, piston rings, or spark plugs, and reassembling engines.
  • Idling motors and observing thermometers for determining the effectiveness of cooling systems.
  • Setting starter locks and aligning and repairing steering or throttle controls, using gauges, screwdrivers, or wrenches.
  • Adjusting carburetor mixtures, electrical point settings, or timing while motors are running in water filled testing tanks.
  • Repairing engine mechanical equipment, such as power tilts, bilge pumps, or power takeoffs.
  • Inspecting and repairing or adjusting propellers or propeller shafts.
