Innovator

Innovators will usually have four main goals:
- Developing or creating new applications, relationships, systems, or products.
- Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
- Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
- Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.
Inspector

Inspectors should be great at:
- Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
Other work activities related to Fire investigators
- Coordinating efforts with other organizations, such as law enforcement agencies.
- Teaching fire investigation techniques to other firefighter personnel.
- Packaging collected pieces of evidence in securely closed containers, such as bags, crates, or boxes, for protecting them.
- Examining fire sites and collecting evidence such as glass, metal fragments, charred wood, and accelerant residue for using in determining the cause of a fire.
- Instructing children about the dangers of fire.
- Analyzing evidence and other information for determining probable cause of fire or explosion.
- Photographing damage and evidence related to causes of fires or explosions for documenting investigation findings.
- Subpoena and interviewing witnesses, property owners, and building occupants for obtaining information and sworn testimony.
- Procuring warrants and arresting and processing the suspected arsonists.
- Testifying in court cases involving fires, suspected arson, and false alarms.
- Preparing and maintaining reports of investigation results, and recordings of convicted arsonists and arson suspects.
