Archetype 11 Technician

Technicians will often be asked these tasks:

  • Providing documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications to tell others about how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used.
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Servicing, repairing, calibrating, regulating, fine-tuning, or testing machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of electrical or electronic (not mechanical) principles.

Innovator

Archetype 5 Innovator

Innovators will usually have four main goals:

  • Developing or creating new applications, relationships, systems, or products.
  • Providing creative ideas or artistic contributions.
  • Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job.
  • Benchmarking, experimenting and testing novel approaches to solving problems.

Other work activities related to Genetic counselors

  • Analyzing genetic information for identifying patients or families at risk for specific disorders or syndromes.
  • Explaining diagnostic procedures such as chorionic villus sampling (CVS), ultrasound, fetal blood sampling, and amniocentesis.
  • Providing genetic counseling in specified areas of clinical genetics, such as obstetrics, pediatrics, oncology and neurology.
  • Assessing patients’ psychological or emotional needs, such as those relating to stress, fear of testing results, financial issues, and marital conflicts for making referral recommendations or assisting patients in managing testing outcomes.
  • Providing counseling to patient and family members by providing information, education, or reassurance.
  • Determining or coordinating treatment plans by requesting laboratory services, reviewing genetics or counseling literature, and considering histories or diagnostic data.
  • Discussing testing options and the associated risks, benefits and limitations with patients and families to assisting them in making informed decisions.
