Any administrator should excel at:

  • Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates, as well as communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Maintaining information files and processing paperwork.
  • Recruiting, interviewing, selecting, hiring, and promoting employees in an organization, and getting them to work together to accomplish tasks by encouraging and building mutual trust, respect, and cooperation.

Strategist

Most strategists should excel at:

  • Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them.
  • Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Developing specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work.
  • Scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.

Other work activities related to Farm and home management advisors

  • Collaborating with producers for diagnosing and preventing management and production problems.
  • Conducting classes or delivering lectures on subjects such as nutrition, home management, and farming techniques.
  • Advising farmers and demonstrating techniques in areas such as feeding and health maintenance of livestock, growing and harvesting practices, and financial planning.
  • Researching information requested by farmers.
  • Preparing and distributing leaflets, pamphlets, and visual aids for educational and informational purposes.
  • Maintaining records of services provided and the effects of given advices.
  • Scheduling and making regular visits to farmers.
  • Organizing, advising, and participating in community activities and organizations such as county and state fair events and 4 H Clubs.
  • Collaborating with social service and health caring professionals to advising individuals and families on home management practices such as budget planning, meal preparation, and time management.
