- Assessing the value, importance, or quality of things or people.
- Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.

- Instructing juries on applicable laws, directing juries to deduce the facts from the evidence presented, and hear their verdicts.
- Sentence defendants in criminal cases, on conviction by jury, according to applicable government statutes.

- Presiding over hearings and listening to allegations made by plaintiffs for determining whether the evidence supports the charges.
- Reading documents on pleadings and motions for ascertaining facts and issues.
