Inspectors should be great at:

• Estimating sizes, distances, and quantities; or determining time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work activity.
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
• Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
• Inspecting equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

Analyzers will often perform the following tasks:

• Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
• Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
• Assessing the value, importance, or quality of things or people.
• Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.

• Investigating accidents affecting the environment for assessing ecological impacts.
• Investigating the adaptability of various animal and plants species to changes in environmental conditions.
• Researching sources of pollution for determining environmental impacts or for developing methods of pollution abatement or controlling.
• Providing industrial managers with technical materials on environmental issues, regulatory guidelines, or compliance actions.
• Planning or conducting studies of the ecological implications of historic or projected changes in industrial processes or development.
• Planning or conducting field researching on topics such as industrial production, industrial ecology, population ecology, and environmental production or sustainability.
• Monitoring the environmental impacts of development activities, pollution, or land degradation.
• Identifying or developing strategies or methods for minimizing the environmental impacts of industrial production processes.
